Why PRP is Right for Me
If you think about it, it makes perfect sense that your body possesses natural healing capabilities. After all, whenever you’re injured, whole systems in your body kick into gear, creating new tissue, restoring health, and renewing you at a cellular level.
With regenerative medical procedures like treatment with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), you can effectively tap into and jumpstart your innate healing abilities. PRP treatment can be targeted to address a wide array of issues, from hair loss to other cosmetic and wellness concerns like skin tone, anti-aging boosts, and reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, and other visible signs of aging.
At Apex Dermatology, Dr. Karin Harp , Dr. Aria Vazirnia, Kristin Rupert PA-C, Mary Hanna NP-BC and the Apex team of skin specialists offer PRP treatment to new and existing patients from around the Westlake Village, California area. Patients travel from near and far for their expert opinions and care. Could PRP be the right option for your aesthetic and wellness goals this summer?
Tapping your own natural resources
PRP therapy uses your own blood as the source for accelerated healing factors. Here’s how it works:
When you come in for PRP treatment, we start by drawing a sample of your blood, in a procedure just like any other medical blood draw but into a specialized vial for concentrating the highest quality PRP. Let Team Apex know if you have concerns about needles, and they can suggest the best way to handle this part of your treatment.
Then, we process the sample in a centrifuge, concentrating the plasma layer of your blood that contains platelets. Platelets present a multitude of growth factors which, when introduced to the skin will repair, restore and refresh skin cells, hair follicles, and health.
Once your PRP injection is ready, your board-certified Apex skin care specialist delivers it to the desired treatment site. At Apex Dermatology, we offer PRP injections alone for the scalp to improve scalp quality and hair growth. We are a center for specialized hair loss expertise and thus recommend a medical appointment for hair loss first in order to see how PRP may fit into an overall diagnosis and plan for the scalp. For skin rejuvenation we recommend combining PRP with microneedling, RF microneedling with Morpheus8 or resurfacing laser procedures such as Fraxel, Clear+Brilliant and Juliet Erbium. All of these services stimulate your natural collagen production to rejuvenate your skin tone and texture. PRP after laser services speeds both healing and results.
You are a likely candidate
After PRP treatment, your results may be visible as soon as one week after your treatment session, and can last for some time. Depending on the issue you want to treat with PRP, you may need multiple treatments over time to see your desired results.
PRP treatments aren’t likely to cause much of a reaction, because the procedure is based on your own biological resources. You don’t need to worry about painful or irritating side effects with PRP. With scalp treatment by injection, you may see some mild swelling in the treatment area immediately following your procedure. Don’t worry, the signs should be gone within hours.
If you’re interested in reducing the appearance of or preventing wrinkles, sun damage, scarring, even dark circles under your eyes, or in hair regrowth, talk to Dr. Harp, Dr. Aria, Kristin, Mary or Lani about whether you could be a candidate for treatment with PRP.
