Turn Back the Clock on Aging Skin with a Chemical Peel

Turn Back the Clock on Aging Skin with a Chemical Peel

Time is not kind to your skin. Gravity, the elements, sunshine, and your body’s diminished production of important substances all play a part in those fine lines, dark spots, and deeper wrinkles forming on your face.

The team at Apex Dermatology, led by Dr. Karin Harp, wants to help you look your best. You don’t have to mourn your youthful skin every time you glance in the mirror. A chemical peel may be exactly what you need to reveal bright, smooth skin.

What’s old is new again

You may remember chemical peels from the 1980s and ’90s. Back then, chemical peels were quite harsh and literally peeled the skin from your body. You usually needed several days to recover.

Things have changed. Today, rather than using large amounts of a single acid, chemical peels are carefully formulated recipes, each designed to provide you with just what your skin needs. For example, we offer the SkinMedica® Vitalize and SkinMedica® Rejuvenize peels, which exfoliate, smooth and brighten your skin.

The fresh skin under the surface

The surface of your skin is where superficial dark spots, fine lines, and roughness reside. Dead cells pile up, dulling your appearance.

A chemical peel removes that topmost, abused layer of skin, allowing the new, fresh, bright, giving way to the unblemished skin beneath. Peels can treat acne, aging, and a host of other issues.

You’re likely to notice:

What to expect

We do everything possible to make you comfortable during your treatment. You may experience some redness and tenderness for 1-3 days following your treatment. That’s your old, damaged skin peeling away.

After that, you begin to see the results. Dark spots and discoloration have faded, your skin is smoother, and you see fewer lines and wrinkles — as if someone erased the signs of time from your skin.

Not just for your face

Although you may think of your face when someone mentions “chemical peels,” they can also improve the look of your neck, chest, and hands. Any exposed part of your body sustains damage from the sun.

Benefits extend to other products, too

After your peel, your skin is more receptive to other products as well. That means your moisturizers and serums will be more effective. Whether you look at it as the peel boosting the efficiency of your products, or your products extending the life of your peel, the result is a more youthful look for a longer time.

Protect your tender skin

In the days and weeks right after your chemical peel, it’s especially important to protect your tender skin. You should always protect your skin, of course, but it’s critically important after a chemical peel.

Use sunscreen. Wear hats. Stay in the shade.
