Regarding technology for the skin and body, Dr. Karin Harp of Westlake Village, California’s Apex Dermatology, is always at the height of dermatologic excellence to offer you the best in today’s aesthetics. With advanced solutions for the skin and body, such as Sofwave skin tightening treatment, patients can address unwanted skin laxity contributing to the unwanted signs of aging. If you want to tone the face, prevent skin sagging, prevent “Ozempic face,” or treat already present skin sagging, creping, or wrinkling. Let’s learn more about this treatment for skin tightening without injections or surgery, with some frequently asked questions below!
According to Dr. Karin Harp, Dr. Aria Vazirnia, Sherri Anderson PA-C, Mary Hanna NP-BC, Alex Woodruff PA-C, Riley McCarthy RN, and their team at Apex Dermatology, Sofwave is a noninvasive skin tightening procedure that uses ultrasound technology to increase collagen and elastin synthesis. Without needing needles, surgery, or recovery time, your skin can firm up and tighten more naturally. Enhancing your appearance doesn’t have to be complicated!
Sofwave has built-in cooling to make the heat of the ultrasound barely noticeable for most people. The majority of our patients say they feel a bit of coldness from the comfort chiller and perhaps a tiny bit of the warm pulses on their skin. Because of the intermittent mild discomfort, individuals tend to find it a very well-tolerated option in our office. Not only do we use a cooling air blower that you get to control, but the Sofwave device has customizable comfort settings for each person and body area. We also offer a bit of topical numbing, and if a person is worried about being a little sensitive, they may choose to add Pronox to their treatment, although this is uncommonly chosen for Sofwave as it tends to be quite comfortable.
At Apex Dermatology, we understand that your time is precious. A typical Sofwave session takes less than an hour, so you can squeeze it into your lunch break and still have time to grab lunch on your way back to work! Sofwave can be scheduled at any time of day in our office, as there is no downtime, and sunscreen or makeup can be easily applied after the treatment.
There may be a nice subtle lifting in the first day to a week, then people usually see nice lifting by 6 weeks, and full results, due to collagen building, tend to be noted at 3 months. However, you may notice some improvement right away. At 12 weeks, the natural collagen and elastin in your skin has had time to regenerate the texture and tone of your skin.
When it comes to side effects, there is not a lot to worry about due to the very safe design of ultrasound energy delivery with Sofwave. There is no fat loss from this procedure. Some of our patients will describe experiencing slight redness or mild swelling immediately after treatment, but these usually go away quickly. Your skin gives you a little “thanks for the tune-up!” You’ll be back to your regular routine in no time!
Sofwave is an excellent choice for prejuvenation. Maintaining lifted skin and healthy tone with improved collagen and elastin is wonderful for keeping a youthful look. Starting in the 20s with an annual Sofwave for prevention is a great choice for many people.
Sofwave is safe and effective before a facelift and does not disrupt that surgery. If you have had a facelift, once you have healed fully from that surgery, many plastic surgeons appreciate it when a patient has a Sofwave done at their dermatologist’s office after the facelift and then one every 6-12 months to maintain the integrity of the skin and potentially maintain or increase the longevity of the facelift.
If you’re noticing those pesky signs of aging, such as the development of most fine lines and wrinkles or sagging, loose skin, but are not ready to go under the knife, Sofwave might be the perfect treatment. It’s also wonderful for people to have who are on a weight loss journey to prevent “Ozempic face” or sagging skin due to weight loss. Our skin typically cannot rebound as fast as it needs to with weight loss and the speedier medicines that people now take to help with faster weight loss. Instituting Sofwave treatments early in the weight loss journey can really help to keep your skin more adjusted to your shape and not leave you with so much laxity that you need to catch up on when you reach your weight loss goals. It works for most skin types and tones, but it is always a smart idea to consult your provider to be sure it is right for you. Dr. Karin Harp, Dr. Aria Vazirnia, Sherri Anderson PA-C, Mary Hanna NP-BC, Alex Woodruff PA-C, Riley McCarthy RN, and their team at Apex Dermatology can help you decide which of their technologically advanced treatments are best for your skincare goals!
