Sofwave: For Tighter, Firmer, and Smoother Skin
Hi everybody, my name is Sherry. I’m one of the PAs here at Apex, and I’m Riley, I’m the RN here. We’re excited tonight to welcome you to our Skin Lifting and tightening event, featuring the amazing soft wave technology. Make sure you guys stay till the very end of the event for the Q&A where you can get all of your questions answered. Experience a true non-invasive treatment with needle free technology. With ultrasound guided treatment, our ultrasound guided technology passes directly through the skin surface, heating the mid dermal tissue at just the right depth to revitalize the skin. And this is why we’re excited to have soft wave technology at Apex Dermatology. So Soft Wave is different from a lot of the other devices on the market for lifting and tightening because it’s not a laser, it doesn’t have any needles, and you don’t need a ton of treatments to get the great results. So Soft Wave just uses ultrasound technology to lift and tighten those areas that have any extra laxity. The ultrasound energy stimulates your own collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production. These are the components of your skin that give your skin bounce back and firmness. It’s going to help lift and tighten and give you those natural results that are long lasting and are gonna give you a more youthful appearance. If you’re wondering if you’re a candidate for Soft Wave, the good news is that soft wave is safe for all skin types. So if you’re looking for a needleless and no downtime procedure to help lift and tighten your skin, the soft Wave procedure is for you. The best thing about Soft Wave is it’s truly a no downtime procedure, meaning you can put your makeup on right after, go to the gym, meet up with a friend, no particular aftercare is needed. The best part is at six weeks, you’ll even start to notice results. All right, we’re here with our amazing patient, Tracy, today, and we’re just gonna talk a little bit about Soft Wave and we’re doing a consultation to find out what her concerns are and what we can address with our amazing soft wave technology. So Tracy, tell me a little bit about what your goals for Soft Wave would be and what you would like to accomplish. Yeah, So my goals would be to kind of tighten my, I’m aging, um, everything’s kind of hanging a little south, and so I just wanna tighten, you know, especially like the jawline in particular. But you know, really the whole face neck needs to just be a little lifted, a little bit lifted tight. Yeah. All right. So I’m gonna go ahead and we’ve already have a lot of questions here, so I’m gonna go ahead and dive into some of our questions that we have. So, first question that we have here is, is soft wave effective for skin laxity and fine lines, or does it also work for deeper, deeper wrinkles? The good news is, is that soft wave is gonna help on all of these, um, concerns for you, um, through the lifting and tightening that’s gonna affect those deeper wrinkles. So soft wave is gonna help both for the fine lines and it also through that lifting and tightening, it’s gonna help with those deeper WR wrinkles. Um, let’s find another question. So next question is, does soft wave hurt or is it comfortable during treatment? That’s an excellent question. So soft wave it on a scale of zero to 10, that’s kinda how we like to rate discomfort during procedures. It’s around like a four, so we can consider it very comfortable. We, in our practice, we have, you come into the office and you put, you have numbing on your skin for about 15 minutes. You really don’t need much numbing. That little bit of numbing time will take the edge off for you. So it helps just a little bit to take the edge off. And then during the procedure, you may have seen in the videos that the patients had a little wand that they were waving. So that magic wand is blowing really cool air and really what you’re feeling during the procedure is some heat. And so that cool air blowing really cools the area down. It feels really good. Patients always tell me that it really cuts the, the discomfort of the procedure and people get through this procedure really, really easily. And honestly, it’s very comfortable. So, and I’ve had it myself, and honestly it’s, it’s a very comfortable procedure. So, um, how soon will I see results after a soft wave treatment and how long do they last? Excellent question as well. So the one thing to know about collagen building is collagen building takes a little bit of time. So you do, you know, initially after your soft wave treatment, you’re gonna get this really nice little, uh, tightened glow to your skin, but the final result isn’t for six weeks. So that six weeks, six week period is when your skin is doing the remodeling and healing from the soft wave energy. And that healing time is what induces collagen and elastin production. And so you six weeks post your treatment, you’re gonna see that that final result and how long do results last? So the really cool thing with Soft Wave is that we recommend that you do soft wave about once a year, which is a really long time for a non-invasive procedure like this to, to give you results. So it’s a fantastic option. Um, let’s see. Okay, how many soft wave sessions are usually needed to achieve the best results? Okay, so for most patients, and this can vary from patient to patient because it will obviously depend a little bit on your level of skin laxity. And so, um, for most patients it’s a series of two, but when you have your individual consultation with your provider, they may adjust that a little bit depending on your specific skin and what your goals are and what we see in your skin and what we feel like you’re, you’re gonna need to achieve your optimal, optimal result. But for most patients it’s, it starts out with a series of two and our specials today reflect that they are, all the specials are on a duo pricing. So it’s for two procedures. All right. And then we have a question, how do you make it so comfortable for people? We addressed that a little bit, um, and they said it looked really comfortable and you saw in the video the patients looked really comfortable as they were there, um, getting their treatment. And honestly, I think it is a combination of a little bit of topical numbing that you have on combined with the, um, the cool air that you’re able to blow and that that cool air, you’re in control of it and so you get to hold it and aim it where you need it and you just kind of waft it around and it really takes out the discomfort of the procedure. Um, and somebody asked, is this a painful procedure? And we kind of answered that already. Um, okay, so what about facial fat loss? I want to keep mine. I love this question. I think that is such an important question, especially with so many things that have come out recently about, um, affecting facial fat. And we do not want to lose our facial fat because facial fat is what gives your, um, face volume. It’s what lifts your, your skin. So we don’t wanna lose that facial fat. The good news with soft Wave is that the depth that the energy reaches does not affect the fat. So that is one of the newer, you know, um, the important things that this new technology that soft Wave brought about was controlling the depth that the energy, um, reaches. It goes into the deep dermis, but it does not go deeper than that. So it doesn’t affect the, the fat. So that’s, that’s a really good question. Thank you for asking that. Um, and then how long does the Titan last? We, we a, we answered that a little bit, so, um, about a year. So we want you to do, you know, if you get the, the series of two or depending on if your provider recommends something different for you, we recommend once a year as your upkeep. So upkeep is really important with everything that we do in aesthetics, you know, so things aren’t one time and then you never do it again. You have to do a little bit of upkeep. So yeah, once a year. Oh, and great question. So the next question is what areas can you treat with soft wave? And the cool thing with soft wave is we have a lot of areas that we can treat. My personal, one of my favorite areas to treat is the neck and the jawline, like the jowl area. These are traditionally very difficult areas to treat and they’re an area that a lot of people have concerns with. So I love treating that area. We can treat the entire face so we can get a nice little brow lift. So nice little non-surgical way to, to lift your brow and give a little more opening to the, to the eye. Um, that’s a really something that’s a favorite of patients. We can treat the eyes, so if you have a little bit of that, um, laxity of the skin around the eyes, we can treat that area. And soft wave can also treat body areas. So one of the favorite body areas to treat is actually the arm area. So this area right here on the, the underarm, as we all know, as time goes on, gravity does its work and that underarm skin can get a little lax and who doesn’t wanna tighten that area up a little bit. So that’s also another area. Um, so and bo so body areas as well. So soft wave works for so many, so many areas. Okay, and great question. I love this question. Is it safe for people with melasma? The great thing about soft Wave is that there’s a few things on our end that we can change the settings on. For instance, soft wave has, um, some uh, uh, cool it, uh, some cooling that goes along with it to bring down the heat. People with melasma, when you add heat, it can flare their melasma, it can cause pigmentation. So when I have somebody who has some melasma, I’m able to up that cooling so we can turn on more seconds of cooling so that it protects the skin and prevents their melasma from flaring. So, you know, definitely if you have melasma and you’re concerned about that, that’s definitely something that you’ll talk about in your consultation because there’s o other things that we can do with cosmetic procedures that help to prevent flares with melasma. Such as like maybe we would ha um, have you pre-treat for a few weeks to a month prior to your procedure with topicals and, and we could talk through those options with you. And then also our treatment settings we would tweak a little bit to make it safe for your melasma so that you wouldn’t get hyperpigmentation with it. So excellent question. Thank you. Okay, so, and then the next question is, does soft wave melt fat and is there an option to adjust the settings? So fat is or is not affected and it doesn’t affect fat? So with soft wave, we are not looking to melt fat if you are interested in that. We have other amazing options in our office that do melt fat, um, but with soft wave it, it doesn’t melt fat, it’s gonna lift and tighten the skin. So, and then next question is this okay for Asian skin? So the cool thing with soft Wave is that it is effective and it is safe for all skin types. And again, if you are somebody who’s prone to hyperpigmentation, and we’ll talk about that in your consultation when you have your consultation, um, we can adjust those settings during the treatment to make it safe for your specific skin type. And sometimes for some people we’ll need to adjust the, the, the cooling with that. But yes, it is safe for Asian skin, so, all right. Okay. Does the procedure include the whole face and do you get the effect around the eyes? So, great question. So you get to kind of choose your problem area that you wanna focus on. And we do have a full face. We have full face plus eyelids, we have full face plus neck, full face, plus neck and chest. We have all options available for you. And absolutely it works really well around the eyes. So the eye area, of course, is a very sensitive area, um, with thinner skin. And so, you know, we adjust the settings for around that area. But yes, you can safely treat around the eye as well. Okay. Alright. How long is the procedure? So the procedure itself, so when you come in, it usually takes about 15 minutes to take your photos, sign consents, and um, get your numbing on. And then we have you sit with numbing for about 15 minutes. So you have about 30 minutes of prep time before your treatment. And then the actual procedure itself for a face, it probably takes somewhere between 20 to 30 minutes. Um, it’s, it’s gonna depend slightly on the settings, but it’s right around 20 to 30 minutes. Um, when we add on additional areas, so like say we’re doing face, neck, and chest, then the time goes up a little bit, you know, depending on how many areas that we’re doing. So, um, okay, so in the DUO package, so the question is, is the DUO package for full face treatment or part of the face? And also what is the DUO package price? So the DUO package, we have a whole list of what problem area that you want to treat. So if you said, I wanna do full face, we have a package price for that. If you said, we also have a price that includes face, neck, and chest, we have a price that includes face and eyes. So we have really customized the packaging for you so that you can decide what areas you wanna focus on. And so, you know, that’s gonna, that’s gonna come down to what you decide you wanna do and what your provider feels like you should, you should, um, focus on and what they recommend for you. But we have the, the full range of, of packages for you. Um, all right. And then how far apart should the two treatments be? Excellent question. So the two treatments are six weeks apart is what we recommend. So six weeks in between those two treatments. Um, next question, is this okay or helpful for all skin colors? And that is, yes, it is okay and helpful for all skin colors, so, okay. And then another question about how long the, the treatment takes. I hope I kind of answered that. I would plan to be, if you were doing face, I would plan to be in the office for about an hour, an hour and a half, somewhere in that time range, and then add on a little more time if you’re doing additional areas. Okay. Okay. And then a question, how is this different or, and better than old therapy? Okay, so old therapy, and I’m gonna tell you guys the truth. I have never had old therapy in a practice that I have worked in. But I have read and you know, I’ve learned a lot about O therapy. One of the things that probably anybody who’s had o therapy can tell you is it is quite a painful procedure. And so soft wave is a much more comfortable procedure. And then there were some side effects that happened with o Therapy that they have been able to through this new technology to eliminate with soft wave. So some of that fat melting that we talked about that is, is um, not happening with soft wave. And so that’s what’s better about, about soft wave. So if you’ve had old therapy and you remember being super uncomfortable and super painful, this is gonna be much more comfortable for you. Has there ever been any bad reactions to the procedure? So I, we’ve personally had this device for, you know, for the better half of, of last year and then into this year. And I personally have not had any patients who have had bad reactions. I can tell you the risk of reactions that could occur would be, you know, burns kind of what we talked about, but that’s why we are able to adjust the cooling and it’s very, very unlikely that that would happen. It’s done very, it’s, you know, a very safe, safe treatment. So, okay. And I love this question. Can you do this treatment with lasers or layer treatments? Before we started this, I was actually talking to um, one of our, one of our moderators that’s helping with this and I was telling her my favorite combination to go with, um, soft Wave is Fraxel, which is another laser we have in our office. And what I love about that combination is you can address multiple concerns with those two lasers. So you get your soft wave to lift and tighten the skin, and then when you layer Fraxel with that, it’s gonna really address the texture of the skin and we can address things like hyperpigmentation or pigmentation, sun damage. So I love combining those two lasers. And the great thing with Soft Wave is that we can really do those kind of like back to back. Um, so, you know, there’s not like a a a time that you have to, it’ll, it’s gonna depend on the laser that we layer with it, but in general, like you could do them one day after the next. So it’s really great to, to layer soft wave with other procedures as well to focus on multiple, multiple concerns. Okay. And then how do the results of Soft Wave compare with the results of three sessions of Morpheus? Eight. Okay, so Morpheus eight is another treatment that we have in our practice and I also love Morpheus eight and it definitely has its place for, for certain things. One of the things I love about Morpheus eight is that we can affect the fat with Morpheus eight when we want to. Um, and so for especially, you know, areas under this area when we want to sculpt this under chin area a little bit, or we wanna take out some of the fat along this gel area, I love using Morpheus eight, um, for that. Um, they are very different treatments in terms of, um, how they, they work and how they achieve that result. But they both can be great procedures and so it’s, it’s, it’s hard to compare them side by side and say, you know, what’s your result? Because it’s really gonna come down to you having a discussion with your, um, with your provider and saying, what do you think is the best for me based on what my concerns are? And that a lot goes into that assessment that we do with you. So when soft wave is done on the j and neck, is there any danger to your thyroid? So really good question. Thank you for asking that. So there is not, and we actually avoid going over the thyroid, so I mean, just to be extra cautious, we do, even though this is ultrasound energy and so ultrasound energy is not gonna affect your thyroid, it’s not gonna injure your thyroid. Um, so it’s not gonna cause, cause any issues with your thyroid. So it’s, it’s totally safe. Okay. Let’s see. Okay, I think unless you guys have any other questions, which I am happy to answer if you do, I think that’s all the questions that we have on here. Thank you everybody for sending in your questions for joining us tonight. One other question that came through, where can we see the full price list so we can, we have the full price list here when you come in for your consultation? We will, we will go over the entire price list. It’s kind of like a long list. That’s the only reason that I’m not going through all of the pricing because I think it’s better for all of you that we’ve broken it down into these small sections. So that way if you really wanna focus on one area, you can. So I wanted to give you the face pricing so that you kind of have an idea. But yeah, we’ll go over the, all, all the price lists with you if you would like to see that after. Okay, everybody, I think that’s all the questions for tonight. I hope I was able to answer any questions you may have. I or any of my colleagues would be more than happy to see you in the office to go over any more of your questions, give you a personal consultation so that you can know where soft wave would fit in in your personal goal goals and your treatment plan. And we can go over any, all of the pricing and everything during that, that consultation session. Thank you so much for joining everybody today and have a great evening. We’ll see you soon. Bye.
What is Sofwave™ exactly?
Sofwave™ is engineered with innovative, next-generation ultrasound technology. This technology, called “Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam,” or “SUPERB,” is designed to penetrate the surface layer of the skin precisely. It then passes through the mid-dermal tissue. The thermal energy associated with this process goes to work to renew, preserve and restore collagen. This protein is produced naturally by the body. But, starting in our mid-20s, we lose collagen at a rate of 1% to 1.5% each year. When this happens, we may notice increasingly pronounced wrinkles and that formerly defined areas no longer look or feel as tight and contoured.
So, what areas do you treat with Sofwave™?
This unique technology is FDA-cleared to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. It is also indicated for treating lax or sagging skin on the face and neck. “Treatable” zones include the eyebrow region, submental area of the chin, and the neck. In turn, we provide a nonsurgical alternative to the brow lift, facelift, and neck lift for low or saggy eyebrows, a “double chin,” and a “turkey wattle.” It may even be appropriate to tighten the upper arms (or “bat wings”), assist other crepey areas, and soften the dimpling and orange peel texture of cellulite.
Can I benefit from Sofwave™?
It’s very possible because Sofwave™ is safe for all skin types and skin colors. So, if you have mild to moderate skin aging and some fine lines, wrinkles, and laxity, you may be an exceptional candidate for this no-downtime, low-risk treatment.
What does it feel like?
Sofwave™ has been described as feeling like a fleeting sensation of warmth as the ultrasound is delivered to the treatment sites via a special applicator. For added comfort, we may briefly apply a topical numbing cream. The treatment also integrates cooling for comfort. Patients generally have no problem with treatment and have peace of mind that their skin is safe because this advanced system features proprietary Sofcool™. This built-in cooling protects the outermost epidermis from excessive heat and damage while supporting treatment at the precise depth and temperature in the deeper dermis layer. So, you get the best of both worlds – a comfortable experience and optimal treatment outcomes!
When can I start to see results?
Sofwave™ is a quick treatment (can be completed in 15 to 45 minutes) that supports fast results. You may notice improvements in texture and smoothness in just one week after a single treatment, with full results in 8-12 weeks. Total treatments depend on the nature of your concerns, as well as your body’s physiological response to Sofwave™. As collagen is renewed in the weeks following treatment, you will notice that your skin always looks and feels better. Also, since there is nothing to “recover” from, you can return to work or other items on your “to-do” list without downtime or visible healing.
Sofwave™ isn’t soft on wrinkles, lines, and other signs of aging. It is a great stand-alone treatment or can be combined with a multitude of our other services. Want to know how it suits you? Find out by scheduling a consultation with one of our talented providers in Westlake Village, CA. To reach a member of our team at Apex Dermatology, call 818-889-2739 today.
How do I prepare for Sofwave™?
Preparation is minimal. Sometimes Sofwave is even performed the same day as a laser treatment. During your consultation, it’s also important to tell us if you have a history of cold sores, are pregnant or nursing, and have any metal implants in the treatment area. We ask that you arrive at our office with a clean, makeup-free face and comfortable clothing. We will also cleanse your face before treatment.
Is there anything that could preclude me from treatment the day of?
We can discuss rescheduling treatment if you have open wounds, cold sores, or styes. We are happy to minimize this possibility by prescribing antiviral medications for cold sores if you have a concern or frequent outbreaks that might delay your treatment. During your consultation, we will review any aspects of your current health that could impact treatment and adjust accordingly.
What are the most common side effects?
The most common side effects might include swelling and brief temporary pink discoloration of the treated skin. These effects are typically mild and usually resolve in just hours to one to two days(s). We can also discuss ways to ease any swelling and flushing that may be present following treatment.
How do I care for my skin afterward?
We will offer you the best products for collagen support and skin lifting. With any skincare we recommend non-clogging or non-comedogenic products overall. Sofwave does not disrupt the skin so you are able to continue to incorporate exfoliants, toners, glycolic acid, retinol, Retin-A, and other potentially irritating products, ingredients, and formulations into your routine. Of course, a good sunscreen (applied properly) is an essential part of any healthy routine.
Is it really “no downtime”?
Since we do not remove any damaged tissue, Sofwave™ is generally considered a true no-downtime procedure. You can return to work and other activities immediately, with only a few exceptions. We ask that you not participate in activities that can result in excessive heating of the treated skin. These activities include taking very hot showers and baths or using a sauna the same day.
How does Sofwave™ compare to other cosmetic ultrasound therapies?
Very well! Due to Sofwave’s built-in cooling mechanism and other features specific to the design of this technology, it is generally associated with comparatively minimal inflammation, swelling, risk of damage, and treatment time. It can treat larger areas in less time than other devices. Of course, we can only determine the best technology or treatment for you after a consultation at our office.
How long do the results last?
No treatment allows us to completely stop the clock. But we can “reset it” and delay the visible effects of the aging process. Its maker, Sofwave Medical, reports that results can last for a year or longer. Your experience with treatment is unique and depends on all sorts of variables, from your genetics and age to your lifestyle, weight stability and skincare habits. Our team works with you on those “modifiable” variables to prolong the results from treatment. For most people, the recommended course is two treatments about 8 weeks apart in the first year and then a maintenance treatment once a year. For prejuvenation at a younger age, a once a year treatment can be ideal. If you have an area that tends to fall in your family, or have had recent weight loss, you might boost that area on a regular basis.
